How to Achieve Success

“Putting aside fears in love, in life, and in writing is the only way to have a shot at achieving any measure of success.”
Barbara DeMarco-Barrett, from her book, Pen on Fire, which I started last week after I read Sara Lancaster’s blog post The 8 Books I Wish I Read in 2009. I bought Pen on Fire in April of 2009. As Sara writes, “What am I waiting for?” You’ll be hearing more about this book as I read it and once I finish it. I’ve read two chapters so far and I’m in love. Which doesn’t surprise me, since I’m a huge fan of Barbara’s weekly radio show, Pen on Fire (previously known as Writers on Writing).

What fears in love, life, or writing have you put aside and as a result achieved success? Tell us your story.

  1. For a long time I was afraid of rejection from other readers within my blog comments or about my blog on theirs. But, after some time I pushed the fear aside and decided to just go for it. It's been an interesting journey and there has been plenty of negative flak, but I've learned and I've become a better writer for it.

Thanks so much for mentioning my post on your site. You've got a great thing going here!

  2. Hi Diane! Thanks for stopping by and sharing!! I love your blog!

Hi Sara! It's funny you say that because that's been a fear of mine since I've started blogging. I worry about offending someone, and edit before I even begin to write. You're right, you do have to just go for it, and I'm happy to hear your successful result!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and for your kind words! I loved your list; it inspired me to work on my own list of books I want to read but can never seem to get to. I'll be writing a longer post in the near future reviewing all the writing and education entries for the group writing project. Thanks again!
